The School of Navigation Engineering is the only institution in Guangxi dedicated to higher vocational education in maritime fields. It is also the first unit within the region to obtain training qualifications from the China Maritime Safety Administration. The school aims to cultivate versatile talents in areas such as nautical technology, ship engineering, intelligent equipment, and shipping management. Centered on the deep integration of 'industry, academia, research, and application,' the college has developed eight distinctive major clusters, including nautical technology, marine engineering technology, shipbuilding engineering technology, waterway transportation safety management, port logistics management, international cruise service management, intelligent electromechanical technology, and industrial robot technology. This has established a comprehensive talent cultivation system that spans from ship navigation to intelligent manufacturing.

Educational resources and training platform

The school emphasizes the cultivation of practical skills and has two teaching training ships and 15 modern training bases, including full-view ship maneuvering simulators and 300,000-ton class engine simulators, providing students with hands-on environments that closely resemble the industry. In 2021, the maritime technology demonstration training base passed the acceptance inspection with an excellent rating, further strengthening the alignment between teaching and industry standards.

Faculty strength and talent development

The school currently has 97 full-time and part-time teachers, including 27 with senior titles and 56 with intermediate titles. The college has a total of 63 classes with 2,862 students, and the employment rate for graduates exceeds 90%. The college relies on the 'Five Navigation Projects' student brand to implement the 'Ten Hundred Thousand' student growth plan, cumulatively providing nearly 5,000 maritime talents to society. The college has been recognized as the second batch of 'Three Comprehensive Education' comprehensive reform demonstration department in the region, with the teacher party branch being a five-star university party branch in the region and the student party branch being a cultivation and creation unit for exemplary party building work in Guangxi universities. It was also rated as a national exemplary party building work sample branch for higher education institutions in the fourth batch in 2024.

Integration of Industry and Education with Scientific Research Innovation

Through the establishment of three industry-academy institutes—Beijing Xinyuseng Industry Academy, CSSC Industry Academy, and Zhongkong Technology Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Academy—the school has deepened its cooperation with enterprises, been approved as a pilot unit for modern apprenticeship by the autonomous region, and jointly trained technical and skilled talents with companies such as Xijiang Heavy Industries. Relying on the Green Smart Shipping Engineering Technology Research Center, the school leads the major scientific project 'Key Technologies for Intelligent Manufacturing of Ships on the Pinglu Canal' in Guangxi, promoting innovations in green ship design and intelligent shipping technology. Students have repeatedly achieved excellent results in national vocational skills competitions, such as winning second prize in the 'Ship Main Engine and Propeller Installation' category for two consecutive years in 2022 and 2024, highlighting the effectiveness of practical teaching. The school has also won one national third prize and three regional gold awards, three silver awards, and six bronze awards in the 'Internet+' Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. Additionally, in the 'Challenge Cup' university extracurricular academic and technological works competition earned one second prize at the national level, one special prize, one first prize, and four third prizes at the regional level.
